Let’s dive into the recipe!

Recipe: Keto Beef Gravy

Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons butter or ghee
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups beef broth (preferably homemade or low-sodium)
  • 1 tablespoon coconut aminos (or soy sauce if not strict keto)
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried rosemary
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: Xanthan gum or another low-carb thickener (if needed)

Instructions:

  1. In a skillet or saucepan, melt the butter or ghee over medium heat.
  2. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the pan. Sauté until the onion becomes translucent and fragrant, about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Stir in the tomato paste, Dijon mustard, thyme, and rosemary. Cook for an additional minute to let the flavors combine.
  4. Slowly pour in the beef broth while stirring continuously to avoid any lumps. Bring the mixture to a simmer.
  5. Reduce the heat to low and let the gravy simmer for about 15-20 minutes, allowing it to thicken and develop flavor. Stir occasionally.
  6. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Remember to go easy on the salt if your beef broth is already salted.
  7. If you prefer a thicker consistency, you can add a small amount of xanthan gum or any low-carb thickener of your choice. Be sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions for the correct amount to use.
  8. Continue to simmer for a few more minutes until the desired thickness is achieved.
  9. Remove from heat and let the gravy cool for a couple of minutes before serving.
