TORTILLAS:
- Either use homemade/commercial tortillas, but they must be low in carbs. The options include tortillas made from almond flour, coconut flour, or cheese. You may opt the lettuce leaves in place of low-carb tortillas.
MAYONNAISE:
- Use homemade keto mayonnaise to keep the carbs low. Swap the mayonnaise with non-dairy mayo, sour cream, Greek yogurt, etc.
LIME:
- Preserved juice of lime can also work, but it doesn’t have the fresh, strong flavor of fresh lime juice. So, always prefer the fresh juice of lime.
SHRIMP:
- You may work with shrimp of every size. You need to peel & devein the shrimp first. We prefer normal/big size. Swap the shrimp with scallops, white fish, or tofu(as a vegan option).
CILANTRO:
- Fresh cilantro will give a fresh aroma & nice green color. You may use basil, mint, or parsley as a replacement.
CABBAGE:
- You can use only green/purple cabbage or a mix of both.

- Ten minutes would be enough to marinate the shrimp.
- They cook fast, so you don’t need to give them the extra time, or else they may get burned.
STORAGE DETAILS:
NOTE:
- The dish is not suitable for freezing, so we are giving directions only for refrigeration.
- Never refrigerate the assembled tacos; otherwise, the texture will be ruined. Always store slaw & shrimp separately.
SHRIMP:
- Pack the cooked leftover shrimp in a container(air-tight). Keep it chilled in the refrigerator for ~three days.
SLAW:
- Cabbage & juice of lime will release water with the passage of time, so we advise consuming the slaw fresh or within twenty-four hours.
Always assemble them fresh right before serving.
FAQs:
Will the frozen shrimp work in the above recipe?
- We prefer the fresh shrimp, but frozen will also work. You need to dry the shrimp the proper way after defrosting for the best texture.
If I don’t find low-carb tortillas, what will be the alternative options?
- We can use the lettuce leaves or cheese shells as a substitute for low-carb tortillas.
What prep can I do earlier?
- You can prepare & chill the slaw and marinate the shrimp earlier. You only have to cook the shrimp & put the tacos together when it’s time to serve.
